NO REGULAR CONFESSIONS SCHEDULE APRIL 17, 18, AND 19

SEE HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE BELOW FOR CONFESSIONS

Lent is a 40 Day Season of PRAYER, FASTING, and ALMSGIVING that begins on Ash Wednesday

and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It is period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture,

we serve by giving alms; and we practice self-control through fasting. We are called not only

to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to

follow Christ's will more faithfully. We recall the waters of baptism in which we were also baptized into Christ's death, died to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ.

  • Ash Wednesday Lenten Reminders

Ash Wednesday, March 5, and Good Friday, April 18, are days of abstinence from meat and days of fast, that is, limited to a single full meal. Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. The law of abstinence binds all Catholics 14 years and older. The law of fasting binds all Catholics from their 18th birthday until their 59th birthday (canons 97, 1252). “Let the paschal fast be kept sacred. Let it be celebrated everywhere on Good Friday and, where possible, prolonged throughout Holy Saturday, so that the joys of the Sunday of the Resurrection may be attained with uplifted and clear mind.” (Constitution on the Liturgy, No. 110)

  • Churches in Central and Eastern Europe

On Ash Wednesday, March 5, the special collection supports the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Communism in this region fell more than 30 years ago, but the Church still struggles to rebuild after decades of oppressive rule. Under communism, religion and religious practices were openly persecuted, and atheism was actively propagated and enforced. Your support of this collection funds grants for vital pastoral ministries throughout the region. That means you support seminary programs, promote ministries and education for children and families, rebuild churches, and renew community life. Thank you for your generosity.

  • Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowls

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowl is celebrating 50 years of helping Catholic faith communities bring Lent to life and encounter God through our global family. During the 40 days of Lent, let us journey together through to meet people in Nigeria, Guatemala, and Bangladesh who are rising above the challenges of hunger and malnutrition. Besides helping the people in other countries, 25% of your donations stays within the Archdiocese of Cincinnati for hunger and poverty alleviation efforts. Please pick up your rice bowl from the gathering spaces on March 1 and 2. Please visit crsricebowl.org/join to share your Lenten prayer intentions.

  • Holy Land Shrines Collection

Every year on Good Friday, a collection is taken up in Catholic Churches to support the work of the Franciscans working in the Holy Land. Christians there rely heavily on the help that comes to them from this worldwide collection.

The Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America is part of a world-wide network of Commissariats of the Holy Land which function as bridges between the Holy Land and Christians all over the world. The Franciscan Monastery in Washington, D.C., coordinates this vital support for the work of the Franciscans who work in the Holy Land.

The Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land have the unique responsibility to care for the Holy Places as well for the “Living Stones,” the Christians living there. It is vital that we support Christians living in the Holy Land, in order to maintain a Christian presence in the very land made holy by the life, death and Resurrection of Jesus.
